Sultan Al Qasimi Signs Memorandum of Understanding Between Kalba and Monash Universities

Sharjah, September 9 – His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council and the Ruler of Sharjah, and the President of Kalba University, emphasized the importance of academic and scientific cooperation with international universities and prestigious institutions. This collaboration contributes to the development of colleges and universities in the Emirate of Sharjah, enabling them to introduce various new programs tailored to each university and region.

His Highness made these remarks during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Kalba University and Monash University in Australia. The signing took place at the premises of Kalba University, with the MoU being signed by Professor Susan Elliott, Deputy Director of Monash University.

His Highness commended the productive and ongoing collaboration between Sharjah’s universities and Monash, which has led to the development of several joint scientific programs and raised academic standards. This collaboration facilitates advanced curriculum and knowledge exchange, with the MoU with Kalba University set to make a significant contribution to the field of sports science. The Board of Trustees of Kalba University will diligently oversee and arrange this modern program to meet global standards as taught at Monash University, thereby enhancing sports education in the Emirate and the United Arab Emirates at large.

The MoU outlines the development of cooperation between Kalba University and Monash in undergraduate programs specializing in physical education and sports science, in line with Monash University’s curriculum.

The memorandum also stipulates future cooperation in educational, scientific, and diverse programs and degrees, providing additional assistance in these specialized fields. It also highlights collaborative efforts in scientific research.

Professor Susan Elliott, Deputy Director of Monash University, expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the continuous collaboration with Monash University, which has opened multiple avenues for academic cooperation between Sharjah’s universities since 2004.

In her remarks following the signing, Professor Susan Elliott commended His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah’s vision for disseminating education, culture, and heritage by establishing universities and equipping them with the best programs, curricula, and academic bodies. She stressed the significance of the Sports Science program to be introduced by Kalba University, the first of its kind in the Emirate of Sharjah, which will empower graduates to encourage the next generation to engage in various sports activities. Graduates of the Sports Science program will be able to apply what they have learned in schools, clubs, and sports institutions.

His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and the attendees were given a visual presentation about Monash University and the specialties it offers, as well as an overview of the various activities and events for students.

The meeting, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah presented a commemorative shield from Kalba University to Professor Susan Elliott, while he received a commemorative gift from Monash University.

The signing of the MoU was attended by Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the Government Relations Department; Mohamed Obaid Al Zaabi, President of the Honors and Hospitality Department; Dr. Huda Al Hashemi, President of the Sharjah Private Education Authority; members of the Board of Trustees of Kalba University; and representatives of Monash University in Australia.
