Axelle René Shines at Cannes: From Caribbean Beauty to Global Voice at Pavillon Afriques

During the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, our media outlet had the honor of meeting Axelle René, a rising figure on the Caribbean and international scene. This inspiring encounter took place at the Pavillon Afriques, a vital space within the festival and a true crossroads for creators, artists, and industry professionals from Africa and the diaspora.

Pavillon Afriques: The Beating Heart of African and Diasporic Cultures at Cannes

Led by the visionary energy of its founder Karine Barclais, the Pavillon Afriques has become a strategic platform for showcasing African cultural industries. More than just an exhibition space, it serves as a place for networking, dialogue, high-level panels, and artistic revelations, bringing together filmmakers, producers, investors, institutions, and creators.

In 2025, Pavillon Afriques continues its mission to build bridges between Africa, the Caribbean, and the world, highlighting both emerging talents and established voices. It was within this rich cultural and creative atmosphere that we had our conversation with Axelle René.

Axelle René: An Exceptional Young Woman of Beauty, Commitment, and Creativity

Originally from Martinique, Axelle René first gained public recognition as Miss Martinique 2022, followed by being named 3rd runner-up at Miss France 2023, and more recently Miss World Top Model 2024. A geology student, she embodies a new generation of Caribbean youth that is both ambitious and multifaceted—combining academic rigor, artistic grace, and social awareness.

Axelle recently reached a major milestone in her international modeling career by signing a two-month contract in Kuwait where she walked the runway for a renowned jewelry brand. She described it as an “unforgettable experience,” highlighting the growing openness of the Arab Gulf to diverse Caribbean talents.

Manelly: A Fashion Brand Born from Maternal Inspiration

The daughter of a fashion designer, Axelle grew up immersed in style. “I was always my mother’s little model,” she says with a smile. Today, she channels that legacy into a professional venture with the upcoming launch of her own ready-to-wear fashion line, Manelly—offering chic, elegant, made-to-measure designs, inspired by Creole and Afro-Caribbean identity.

The brand’s official release is scheduled for 2025, with plans for a launch in Martinique, and she is currently seeking sponsors and partners to support this entrepreneurial endeavor.

A Committed Actress: “Invisible Fractures”

Axelle has also taken her first steps in the film industry, appearing in the powerful feature “Invisible Fractures” directed by the talented Martinican filmmaker Jean-Michel Loutoby. The film, screened at the Villa des Ministres during the festival, explores school bullying, family violence, and societal pressure through the dramatic story of two young siblings.

Axelle relates deeply to her role, having experienced bullying as a child due to her skin color. She shares that the project felt very personal and that she believes in art as a means of healing and empowerment. Since the screening, many young people have reached out to thank her for being an inspiration and showing that resilience is possible.

Looking Ahead: Fashion, Film, and Cultural Advocacy

Now based in Paris, Axelle René is pursuing her many ambitions. She hopes to continue growing her presence in cinema while developing Manelly as a brand rooted in elegance and cultural pride. She also dreams of representing Martinique and the Caribbean on the world stage, breaking stereotypes and promoting beauty in all its forms.

Her participation in Pavillon Afriques at the Cannes Film Festival 2025 marked a symbolic milestone—a space of visibility, recognition, and creative convergence where the stories of the African diaspora are told with dignity and celebrated with pride.
