Building a Brighter Future Through Media Collaboration along the Belt and Road
The 2023 Belt and Road Media Cooperation Forum, held in Beijing, has provided a platform for fostering strategic partnerships among media outlets from Belt and Road countries. This collaboration not only facilitates the exchange of ideas but also promotes cultural understanding, integration, and coexistence. During this event, Mr. Mohammed Jalal Al-Raisi, the Director-General of the Emirates News Agency , emphasized the importance of media in the face of diverse and evolving challenges in today’s fast-paced world. He stressed the need for media professionals to enhance their technical and intellectual skills to effectively navigate these challenges.
Al-Raisi proposed the launch of a strategic partnership initiative for all participating media outlets in the forum. This initiative aims to empower these outlets to shape the future of media, build ethical values, and contribute to the creation of a vibrant media landscape. He pointed out that bolstering media cooperation within the Belt and Road Media Cooperation Forum is crucial for achieving the highest levels of shared benefits, maintaining credibility, and raising trust levels between media entities and local and international communities.
Al-Raisi highlighted that media collaboration provides opportunities for sharing ideas, bridging cultures, and achieving mutual development and integration.
It’s worth noting that the Emirates News Agency has entered into over 120 agreements with various media institutions around the world, including news agencies, newspapers, television stations, and radio stations across different regions. These partnerships enrich the expertise of the agency’s media personnel, promoting professionalism, credibility, and proficiency in news reporting.
Shou Lei, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and head of the Propaganda Department of the Committee, highlighted the Belt and Road Initiative’s tenth anniversary. He emphasized its objectives, which focus on using the ancient Silk Road experience to connect and promote political dialogue, infrastructure development, smooth trade, and financing within the participating countries. Lei recognized the vital role played by media in constructing a positive narrative about the Belt and Road Initiative, which contributes to shared development and prosperity.
He expressed hope that the Belt and Road Initiative would continue to lead and strengthen practical collaboration among media outlets from participating countries. He encouraged them to work together to narrate the genuine intentions behind the initiative and illustrate its positive impact on the development of the participating nations.
Additionally, Tuo Chen, Editor-in-Chief of the People’s Daily, called for enhanced cooperation in content, communication, and information exchange among media outlets from Belt and Road countries. Such collaboration would enable these outlets to comprehensively explain the principles, philosophy, and objectives of the Belt and Road Initiative while showcasing notable achievements made within its framework.
