Fierce Competition at the Fourth Local Arabian Camel Racing Event

Doha, October 20 – The third day of the fourth local camel racing event for purebred Arabian camels, also known as “Sana Al-Laqaya,” witnessed intense competition. This event, scheduled for the 2023-2024 season, is organized by the Camel Racing Committee and spans two stages, taking place at Al Shahaniya and Al-Bashayer tracks. Enthusiastic supporters of this traditional sport have flocked to witness the excitement, with the competition set to continue until October 28.

The first stage of the racing event, featuring both morning and evening sessions, will run until tomorrow, Saturday. During this phase, the races will include Al-Jaza, which is a general category, and Al-Muftuha, an open category. The second stage is set to commence on October 26, lasting for just three days. It will showcase competitions involving Al-Thanaya, Sudanese camels, Hail camels, and Al-Zamoul.

Today races featured strong competition across various segments. In total, there were 34 races for Sana Al-Laqaya, including 19 morning races – 11 for young camels (Bakar) and 8 for mature camels (Qadan), as well as 15 evening races, including 9 for Bakar and 6 for Qadan.

In the morning session, Jazlah, owned by Salem Ali Al-Mari, secured the title in the primary race for young female camels (Bakar), completing the race in 6 minutes and 1.93 seconds. Following closely behind was Khubur, owned by Mohammed Salem Al-Mari, in second place with a time of 6 minutes and 4.09 seconds, while Soub, owned by Mubarak Mohammed Al-Mari, finished third with a time of 6 minutes and 4.25 seconds.

In the primary race for mature female camels (Qadan), Alsad, owned by Mubarak Hamad Terheeb Al-Hajri, claimed the top spot, finishing in 6 minutes and 1.79 seconds. Al-Fayez, owned by Hamad Mubarak Al-Mari, secured second place with a time of 6 minutes and 2.33 seconds, and Msaieh, owned by Mohammed Tahnoon Al-Mari, took third place with a time of 6 minutes and 2.61 seconds.

The morning session also saw Akab, owned by Mubarak Hamad Terheeb Al-Hajri, achieve the best time of the day in the Qadan production category, clocking in at 5 minutes and 55.87 seconds, securing victory in the fourth race for mature female camels (Qadan).

In the evening session, Al-Nuwaiss, owned by Muzkar Musfir Al-Qurashi, triumphed in the primary race for open young female camels (Bakar), finishing in the lead with a time of 5 minutes and 52.85 seconds. She outperformed Antabah, owned by Salem Nasser Al-Maksoor, who took second place with a time of 5 minutes and 53.83 seconds, while Alfayizah, owned by Saad Saeed Al-Mari, secured third place with a time of 5 minutes and 57.31 seconds.

In the primary race for open mature female camels (Qadan), Hamalul, owned by Faran Atiq Al-Mari, clinched the title with a strong and remarkable performance. She completed the race in 5 minutes and 56.23 seconds, while Al-Nayif, owned by Atef Atiya Al-Qurashi, finished in second place with a time of 5 minutes and 56.39 seconds, and Al-Taif, owned by Amer Saad Al-Mari, secured third place with a time of 5 minutes and 56.63 seconds.

In the evening session, Mubalish, owned by Turki Saif Al-Otaibi, recorded the best time of the day with a time of 5 minutes and 50.63 seconds, securing victory in the eighth race for open mature female camels (Qadan).

The first stage of the fourth local camel racing event will conclude tomorrow, Saturday, with 26 races for Sana Al-Laqaya (open races) at Al-Shahaniya, including 16 races for young camels (Bakar) and 10 races for mature camels (Qadan), covering a distance of 4 kilometers.
