Tithorea production company co-founders Shahin Mani and Sherif Koyess, who have previously orchestrated the triumphant music and arts festival Labryinto in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, have unveiled their latest endeavor – Medaina.
This groundbreaking 5-day, 2-location festival is poised to grace the magnificent Kingdom of Jordan with its presence. In a never-before-seen fusion, the awe-inspiring settings of Petra and Wadi Rum will serve as the dual stages for this cutting-edge electronic music and arts celebration. Spanning an enchanting span of May 22 to May 27, 2024, Medaina will unfold across the storied landscapes of Petra and Wadi Rum.
The inaugural day, on May 22, will unfold within the rock-carved city of Petra, followed by a special presentation on May 23. The vibrant festivities will then migrate to the mesmerizing expanse of Wadi Rum on May 24, culminating in a grand celebration on the 25th amidst the captivating Valley of the Moon. Medaina stands tall on five distinctive pillars: music, art, gastronomy, culture, and sustainability.
Expect to encounter a stellar lineup featuring both international and local musical luminaries, alongside breathtaking visual displays, thought-provoking presentations, and an immersive world that defies expectations. With participants anticipated from more than 70 countries, the event promises to be a truly global gathering. Speaking about the concept, Co-Founder Shahin Mani shares, “While we’ve orchestrated festivals around the globe, the prospect of presenting Medaina against the backdrop of Petra and Wadi Rum in Jordan fills me with unparalleled excitement.
The convergence that has given life to this historic celebration is invigorating, and the endorsement from the Jordanian community and authorities is profoundly motivating. We’re all set to infuse our avant-garde creative direction, transforming this occasion into a once-in-a-lifetime immersive experience.” Petra, acknowledged as one of the Seven Wonders of the World, stands as an awe-inspiring testament to human creativity.
Recognized for the iconic Treasury (also known as Al-Khazneh in Arabic), a remarkable structure hewn into the rock façade, the region boasts a plethora of awe-inducing temples, each leaving an indelible impact. Wadi Rum, situated in southern Jordan, is a captivating blend of natural wonders and cultural heritage. Its desert landscape boasts narrow canyons, natural arches, towering cliffs, and concealed caverns. With petroglyphs, inscriptions, and archaeological remnants spanning 12,000 years of human history, and over 25,000 rock carvings and 20,000 inscriptions tracing the evolution of human thought and early alphabet development, Wadi Rum is an absolute treasure trove.
The moniker “Medaina” is a harmonious union of “Mediterranean” and “ain,” which signifies “spring” in Arabic. Water was pivotal in the evolution of Petra, serving as a pivotal nexus for Mediterranean trade routes. The festival will pay homage to this foundational civilization.
Against these unparalleled backdrops, Medaina is poised to showcase a forward-thinking musical lineup featuring globally acclaimed acts that redefine electronic music, ensuring that attendees will dance and lose themselves in these imaginative soundscapes.
