UAE Sends Three Tons of Vaccines to Libya Derna

Derna, October 20th – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has dispatched a three-ton shipment of vaccines to Libya, including vaccinations against yellow fever and influenza. The shipment was sent to Benghazi International Airport for subsequent distribution to the city of Derna, Libya, in close coordination with Libyan health authorities.

The UAE Red Crescent delegation announced that the medical shipment comprises 90,000 doses of yellow fever and influenza vaccines, sufficient to inoculate 30,000 people. The team is working closely with relevant Libyan authorities to ensure the necessary refrigeration, as it is crucial that these vaccines are stored at a temperature of 8°C to maintain their effectiveness and distribute them to the city’s residents.

This medical aid shipment is intended to boost community immunity and provide increased protection for the elderly and those with chronic illnesses. It is part of the UAE’s ongoing humanitarian efforts to support their Libyan brethren, particularly as they recover from the aftermath of Hurricane Daniel, which struck on September 10th, causing casualties and displacement.

Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Development and Organizations, stated, “This assistance complements the humanitarian and relief role played by the United Arab Emirates to stand by the Libyan people during their hardships following the devastating Hurricane Daniel.”

He added that this medical aid will contribute to strengthening preventive and precautionary measures, aiding the people in overcoming the crisis faced by the victims and the missing.

Since the occurrence of Hurricane Daniel in the city of Derna, the UAE has been committed to its humanitarian responsibility toward the Libyan people. Various UAE entities, including the UAE Red Crescent, the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for Humanitarian Works, and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Charitable and Humanitarian Works, have actively participated in relief campaigns to assist those affected.
