Saudi Arabia Commitment to Rohingya Refugees: A $2.25 Billion Humanitarian Effort

In a notable display of compassion and humanitarian dedication, Saudi Arabia has opened its doors and hearts to over 260,000 Rohingya refugees, marking a significant response to the crisis that has unfolded in Myanmar. The Counselor to the Royal Court and the General Supervisor of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief), Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, shared this information during a high-level session on the Rohingya minority crisis held at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

During this UN session, which was conducted in partnership with the UN General Assembly proceedings and attended by prominent figures such as Sheikh Hasina Wajed, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Dr. Al-Rabeeah shed light on the substantial financial commitment that Saudi Arabia has made to support Rohingya refugees. According to him, the Kingdom has allocated a staggering $2.25 billion to ensure the well-being and integration of these refugees into Saudi society.

Dr. Al-Rabeeah emphasized that this significant financial support serves multiple crucial purposes. It includes providing essential public healthcare services to the Rohingya refugees, offering employment opportunities to them, and ensuring access to education for their children. This comprehensive approach underlines Saudi Arabia’s commitment not only to meeting the immediate needs of the refugees but also to fostering their long-term well-being and successful integration into society.

Saudi Arabia’s dedication to supporting the Rohingya refugees is a testament to its unwavering stance within the international community. The Kingdom has consistently stood in solidarity with the Rohingya minority, refusing to turn a blind eye to their rights being denied. Dr. Al-Rabeeah expressed sincere gratitude to the organizers of the UN session for inviting Saudi Arabia to participate, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in addressing the Rohingya crisis.

In summary, Saudi Arabia’s generous allocation of $2.25 billion to host and support over 260,000 Rohingya refugees reflects the nation’s deep commitment to humanitarian aid, as well as its unwavering support for the rights and well-being of the Rohingya minority. This substantial investment not only provides immediate relief but also ensures a brighter future for the refugees and their children, highlighting the importance of global cooperation in addressing this pressing issue.
