6 Things You Can Do While in Ihram During Umrah or Hajj Pilgrimage
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in Saudi Arabia has clarified six permissible actions for individuals in Ihram, the sacred state observed during Umrah or Hajj pilgrimage. The Ministry, in a recent announcement via its official Twitter handle, highlighted the following activities that are not prohibited while in Ihram:
- Carrying an Umbrella.
- Bathing.
- Wearing slippers.
- Wearing glasses, rings, and watches.
- Wearing a belt and a wallet around the body.
It’s important to note that these activities are permitted within the boundaries of Ihram. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah had previously emphasized the importance of adhering to Hajj rules and regulations. This guidance is particularly crucial as it prepares pilgrims for the upcoming pilgrimage season.
In Islam, entering the sacred state of Ihram is a prerequisite for both major and minor pilgrimages. Before reaching the Miqat, the designated pilgrimage boundary, pilgrims must perform the necessary purification rituals and don the prescribed clothing. Ihram attire for men consists of two white cloths with no seams, hems, or buttons. The bottom piece, known as the Izar, covers the area between the navel and the feet and is wrapped around the waist. The top portion, called the rida, always covers the left shoulder. These regulations are essential for those embarking on the holy journey of Umrah or Hajj, as they signify the pilgrims’ devotion and commitment to the spiritual experience.
