Saudi Arabia is taking a significant step toward smart and sustainable urban living with the launch of its first autonomous food delivery service in Riyadh. The initiative, located in the ROSHN Front Business Area, is a collaboration between the ROSHN Group and the delivery platform Jahez, and is officially licensed by the Transport General Authority.
The pilot program deploys five self-driving delivery robots designed to navigate city streets safely and efficiently. Each robot is equipped with over 20 sensors, advanced cameras, GPS systems, and climate-controlled compartments, ensuring meals are delivered in perfect condition—even in the extreme temperatures of the Saudi summer.
Beyond convenience, this innovative service aligns with broader environmental and urban planning goals. By reducing the need for traditional delivery vehicles, the project aims to lower carbon emissions, ease traffic congestion, and improve air quality in Riyadh. These measures reflect the Kingdom’s commitment to building smarter, cleaner, and more sustainable cities.
The ROSHN Front pilot is just the beginning. Plans are already underway to extend autonomous delivery to residential neighborhoods and shopping centers, making this technology a practical everyday solution for residents. Authorities see this initiative as a milestone in Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to integrate cutting-edge technology into public services, demonstrating how robotics and AI can transform city life while supporting environmental sustainability.
As the Kingdom continues to diversify its economy and modernize urban infrastructure, projects like this showcase the potential of smart technologies to enhance quality of life, reduce environmental impact, and position Saudi Arabia as a leader in innovative city solutions.
The success of the pilot could pave the way for broader adoption of autonomous delivery systems across the country, further advancing the vision of sustainable, technology-driven urban environments.
