Abdullah bin Zayed Meets Foreign Ministers at the 78th UN General Assembly
New York, September 18 – On the sidelines of the 78th United Nations General Assembly, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, met separately with several foreign ministers representing participating countries in the event.
His Highness had the privilege to meet with His Excellency Michael Martin, the Foreign Minister of Ireland, as well as His Excellency Bakhtiyor Saeedov, the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
During these meetings, His Highness discussed a range of issues on the agenda of the United Nations General Assembly. Additionally, he explored bilateral cooperation in various domains, including economic, trade, investment, cultural, educational, agricultural, technological, food security, renewable energy, and more.
The discussions also delved into the subject of climate change, emphasizing the significance of harnessing this international platform to mobilize global efforts in addressing the consequences of climate change. This was especially timely with the Climate Ambition Summit taking place alongside the 78th UN General Assembly.
His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan also briefed the esteemed foreign ministers on the preparations of the United Arab Emirates to host the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in November and December in Expo Dubai. In this context, he affirmed that the world is looking forward to COP28 with boundless ambition, great hope, and a common desire to make a tangible impact and bring about a qualitative shift in global climate action. The UAE aspires, through hosting this prominent global event, to solidify a sustainable international cooperative approach that will lead to a paradigm shift in climate matters on various fronts.
His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan also discussed matters of mutual interest and regional and international developments with His Excellency Michael Martin, the Foreign Minister of Ireland, and His Excellency Bakhtiyor Saeedov, the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan.
He highlighted the UAE’s commitment to building constructive and positive international partnerships founded on inclusivity and multilateralism. This approach aims to achieve sustainable economic growth and comprehensive development in societies.
Furthermore, on the sidelines of the 78th United Nations General Assembly, His Highness had a meeting with Her Excellency Barbara Leaf, the Assistant U.S. Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs. They discussed a number of issues of mutual interest and exchanged views on them.
The meetings were attended by Her Excellency Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, the Minister of State for International Cooperation, His Excellency Ahmed bin Ali Mohammed Al Sayegh, Minister of State, Her Excellency Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs and the Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations, and His Excellency Mohammed Issa Boushahab, the Deputy Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations.
