Middle East Travel & Tourism: A $367 Billion Industry in 2025

The Middle East’s travel and tourism sector is set to make a significant economic impact in 2025, contributing an estimated $367.3 billion to the regional economy and supporting approximately 7.7 million jobs. This growth underscores the region’s resilience and its pivotal role in the global tourism landscape.

Key Drivers of Growth

Saudi Arabia stands out as a major contributor, with its tourism sector expected to inject SAR 447.2 billion into the economy, marking a historic high. This surge is attributed to the nation’s Vision 2030 initiative, which aims to diversify the economy and reduce dependence on oil revenues. The Kingdom’s efforts to develop luxury resorts, cultural heritage sites, and entertainment hubs have attracted both domestic and international visitors .

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) also plays a crucial role, with Dubai recording 5.31 million international visitors in the first quarter of 2025, reflecting a 3% annual increase. The UAE’s emphasis on infrastructure development, world-class attractions, and strategic positioning as a global transit hub has bolstered its tourism sector .

Regional Collaboration and Emerging Markets

Collaboration among Middle Eastern nations has further amplified the region’s tourism appeal. Countries like Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and Jordan have united to enhance tourism offerings, leading to a more integrated and attractive destination for travelers worldwide .

Emerging markets within the region are also experiencing a tourism boom. Jordan, for instance, has seen a surge in visitors from Asia, Europe, and the Arab world, driving revenue growth and highlighting the country’s rich cultural heritage and historical sites .

Sustainable and Inclusive Growth

The focus on sustainable tourism practices is gaining momentum. Initiatives aimed at preserving cultural heritage, promoting eco-tourism, and ensuring inclusive growth are being implemented across the region. These efforts not only enhance the visitor experience but also contribute to the long-term viability of the tourism industry.

The Middle East’s travel and tourism sector in 2025 exemplifies a dynamic and evolving industry. Through strategic investments, regional collaboration, and a commitment to sustainability, the region is poised to remain a leading global tourism destination, offering diverse experiences that cater to a wide array of travelers.
