We are delighted to announce the selection of MIROIRS No. 3, the new film by acclaimed German director Christian Petzold, at the Quinzaine des Cinéastes of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. This marks our fourth collaboration with the filmmaker, following Transit, Undine, and Afire (Le Ciel Rouge).
A Delicate and Haunting Tale
Described by Julien Rejl, Artistic Director of the Quinzaine des Cinéastes, as “a mysterious melodrama, showcasing once again Petzold’s masterful direction, precision, and elegance”, Miroirs No. 3 promises a refined and emotionally charged experience, deeply rooted in the filmmaker’s signature style.
Synopsis: Echoes of the Past
During a weekend in the countryside, Laura, a student from Berlin, miraculously survives a car accident. Though physically unharmed, she is left deeply shaken. She is taken in by Betty, who witnessed the crash and cares for her with warmth and kindness. Slowly, Betty’s husband and son overcome their initial hesitation, and a sense of domestic calm sets in. But beneath the surface, unresolved tensions and personal histories begin to resurface. Laura, too, must confront her own past in this quietly intense exploration of trauma and healing.
A Strong and Sensitive Cast
The film stars Paula Beer, a regular collaborator of Petzold’s, along with Barbara Auer, Matthias Brandt, and Enno Trebs. Together, they bring nuance and depth to this intimate drama of identity, memory, and emotional reckoning.
