Mohannad Al-Bakri Dedicates Arab Cinema Personality Award. Mohannad Al-Bakri, the Managing Director of the Jordanian Royal Film Commission (RFC), dedicated the Arab Cinema Personality of the Year Award to Palestinian filmmakers during the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale). He thanked the Arab Cinema Center (ACC) for its role in uplifting the film industry globally.
The award ceremony took place at the ACC’s booth at Berlinale on February 18th, attended by prominent figures including past recipients Mohamed Hefzy and Mohamed Keblawi, President of the Cairo International Film Festival Hussein Fahmy, and filmmaker Marianne Khoury.
Al-Bakri expressed genuine appreciation to ACC, particularly Alaa and Maher, for acknowledging RFC’s contributions and the international success of the Jordanian film industry.
He emphasized the indispensable role of organizations like ACC in enhancing the regional film landscape and ensuring the dissemination of Arab narratives globally.
Al-Bakri also highlighted the challenges in Palestine, dedicating the award to filmmakers and artists in Palestine, Gaza, and the West Bank, stressing the urgency of amplifying their voices.
Al-Bakri’s journey from a capacity-building manager at RFC in 2007 to its managing director in 2009 underscores his dedication to the industry’s growth. He commenced his professional career at the Hashemite Fund for Human Development, laying the foundation for his impactful work in the film sector.
Established by MAD Solutions, the ACC operates as a nonprofit organization headquartered in Berlin, committed to advancing Arab cinema globally. It serves as a nexus for industry networking, facilitating connections among filmmakers, producers, distributors, and stakeholders.
In addition to networking, the ACC hosts various industry events, including panel discussions and workshops, aimed at promoting Arab cinema and fostering international collaboration. These initiatives are complemented by film market stands, providing filmmakers with platforms to showcase their works to potential partners and investors.
