Czech Tennis Star Karolina Muchova Withdraws from WTA Finals Due to Injury
Mexico City, October 24 – Czech tennis player Karolina Muchova, who is currently ranked eighth in the world, has announced her withdrawal from the WTA Finals in Cancun, Mexico, due to a wrist injury. The WTA Finals brings together the top 8 women tennis players in the world and is scheduled to take place over the current weekend.
Muchova, 27, who was the runner-up at this year Roland Garros tournament, expressed her disappointment on Instagram, saying, “I regret to announce that I will be absent from my first WTA Finals in Cancun.”
It is expected that the ninth-ranked Greek player, Maria Sakkari, will replace Muchova in the year-end championship.
Muchova sustained a right wrist injury during her participation in the US Open last September, where she reached the semifinals. As a result of this injury, Muchova will also miss the Billie Jean King Cup finals in November.
